Isn’t it nice to get away? Just pack a bag and go. That’s what my husband and I (and baby Ben) did this past weekend. We didn’t have much planned, aside from the hotel, which I got with a gift card from Travelzoo.com (thanks travelzoo!) But we had such a wonderful time. It was nice to be carefree, to not have to make plans over plans. And to be honest, my husband and I needed that time together.
Things get busy with three kids. The marriage gets put aside for the kids, for work, for cooking & cleaning. By the end of the day, I’m just too tired to even watch a movie with my husband. He understands though, and I’m thankful for that. But it still sucks to not have much time with him. I miss him. He’s a wonderful man and a great companion. And not to mention, pretty good looking! I’m blessed to have him as my husband.
So this last weekend was our time! Time to just unwind and enjoy each other. We had dinner at a great little restaurant. It was only about two hours from home, but the drive was amazing. The fall foliage was remarkable. It was a much needed adventure!
From our family to yours; Happy Fall! 🍁
I’ve been awake since 2am. I’m not a night person. I’m a mom. A mom to three wonderful little angles, who apparently missed the memo that night time is for sleep. My oldest kicked things off this morning. He needed to use the rest room, which he just had to wake me up to tell me. Then the baby woke up to nurse. Fine. I’m up anyway. Then the middle darling woke up screaming, as she’s been doing that every night for a week now. ‘Okay, Elizabeth, I’m sorry but mama can’t help you. Baby is nursing.’
And here we are, at 3:39 am. Baby is still up, playing in his crib. Elizabeth is still yelling, alone in her room. ‘Mama still hasn’t had a free moment to help you Liz.’ I feel bad, ya know. She wants to see me. I should be happy my kids always call out for me when they wake up in the morning. They love me, they want to see me. But I’m tired. My husband is sound asleep. I’m jealous. I want to sleep too. But I don’t. I never do. I wake up every night to help the kids go back to sleep, but who helps me?
Being a mother is a thankless job. It’s tedious, I work long hours with no break. I’m a maid, a cook, a pastry chef, a teacher, a sleep coach, a nanny. It’s exhausting and there just isn’t enough coffee in the world to make this mama not tired. Don’t get me wrong though, my kids do say thank you. I know they appreciate me, but still.
Mama needs a break.
My little bug is almost three months old! It feels like he was just born. He’s grown so much and developing such a sweet personality. His smile is delightful and he coos even better. I love watching him grow!
It’s my favorite time of year; fall! There’s nothing quite like cool nights, changing leaves, apple picking, and pumpkins. 🍎🍁 I love it!
Earlier this week, my husband and I took the kiddos apple picking – our three children, and my two nephews. It was a challenge to say the least. It can be difficult to manage five children under six, but we did it. One kid was running this way, the other that way, one in a tree, one stomping apples… boy, they are a task! But seeing them all try to reach the apple way high and the tree was such a joy. There’re so sweet and innocent.
Naturally, when we got home, we made some apple pie! We love apple pie! And not to toot my own horn, but I can make a pretty great pie. 💞
As of this morning, there’s only a sliver left. The mix of apples, crumb top, and crust is simply heavenly.
Thank heavens for apples! 🍎
I love my chickens and I love my kids.
Having chickens was never something I thought would be for me. They’re messy, they can be smelly, and they bite! I’ve never been much of a farm girl, so when my husband said “Let’s get chickens!” I was a little apprehensive. I would have rather just gotten eggs at the store! But once we did our research, and educated ourselves, we realized chickens were a very wise investment. The price of eggs went up tremendously last summer, up to $5/dozen! That was crazy! We didn’t eat a lot of eggs, but really, that was just highway robbery! We did the math and realized we could just raise our own chicken for less. The cost of feed and supplies was cheaper than to buy eggs at the store. So, we jumped in! We bought 8 hens, red sex links. We fell in love with them. My son, Logan, really look to the girls. He’s been a huge help. From collecting the eggs, to feeding the girls, he’s there. I could not be more proud of him.
Little know fact, eggs that you buy in the store can be up to one year old. Think about that. I don’t want to eat a year old egg! But, the FDA allows that. I love the fact that I can go out to the coop, and grab an egg. I know where it came from, how long it’s been there, and what the hens have eaten. I know the living conditions of my hens. I know they aren’t stuffed in a cage their whole life. They get to run around and eat grass. They’re happy chickens.
We’ve since added to our flock and now have a total of 30 hens. It cam be a bit overwhelming at times, but the reward is so great, I wouldn’t change a thing.
I recommend everyone gets chickens!
